Orchard Memories

Summer is gone...(where ,oh where, did it go??)...and we are getting ready in a couple of weeks to go apple picking at a local orchard. This has been a family tradition with my kids since they were little. We make an afternoon out of driving around the orchard in search of the "perfect tree" and the biggest, juiciest apples we can find. I used to go to the orchard every year with my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and my dad and we made a whole day out of it. We picked and picked and had rotten apple fights and ate apples until our bellies hurt! We had so much fun and I will never forget the smell of the orchard, the wind in the trees and the time that we spent together. My grandparents have passed on and they have instilled this tradition in my heart and I think my girls like it too. I know that my oldest, Tiffany, used to love my apple pies and apple crisp (she still does!)... that I learned to make by helping my grandma in the kitchen. When I was little I could only peel the apples, but even that was fun. I used to try and peel the whole apple without the peel breaking- which I got quite good at the older I got! Every time I go to the orchard during apple season or bake an apple pie or make homemade apple sauce...I think fondly of those "good old days" and thank God for the memories.

One of the things about living in one spot your whole life. You can share that stuff with your kids. LOL lucky me i married into the military and was able to share Germany with my kids. SO no complaints!
